7/7/2023 0 Comments Boondocking tucson az![]() So boring is Snyder Hill that neither Kerri or myself took a single photo to share, sorry.Ī group of our friends were camped here for some reason, so we popped in for the work week. Anyone and everyone that needs quick access to Tucson is here, right out your bedroom (or van) window. Sure, it is free, but it is easily one of the works boondocking areas in Arizona. It is a small plot of land with RVs crammed as tightly as your average RV park. I’ve driven past it numerous times and every time I stare and wonder why anyone would want to stay there. This is probably one of the oldest and well known free camping location around Tucson. The entire next week was spent just outside Tucson, at a boondocking location I have never once stayed Snyder Hill. There is only so much to be done in the little town, and I think we did it all. Then to the dusty saloon next door for a few drinks before calling it a night (against her will). We walked the strip, visiting stores at will, and eventually sitting down in a bar-slash-rave-club for a mediocre burger. Now, I’m no huge fan of Bisbee (although I admit I liked it a lot more last year) but I went along for the ride anyway. So off towards Tucson again… but first, a quick overnight stop in Bisbee as Kerri has really wanted to hang around in that old town a little more since our last visit, not 11 months ago. That was okay, as it may very well be the last time we get to see most of these people. We have done little camping by ourselves this whole winter, and even less was in our future. This makes for great desert hiking and easy access to the nearby state park that protects the nearby peaks. Our return to Arizona was simply to meetup with even more nomad friends. The area has many dirt roads (built for an imagined, but as yet unsuccessful development). Although the site is down a long rural road there is a market and gas station (that has diesel) nearby. The route from the city will pass several boondocking sites, but they appeared crowded and were right off the highway. Though Ocotillo Views is within the Tucson city limit it is a good 30+ minutes drive from the city proper. The host marked out our area with solar lights to demarcate the edge of the prickly desert. The site is in open desert with spectacular views and wildlife within earshot. The accommodations were just as described and we had ample level parking for our 22’ Sprinter. We couldn’t have been happier with our first stay. ![]() Our host and cadre of animal pets were very friendly and made us feel most welcome. This was our first stay being hosted on Boondockers Welcome. Other day trips to Tombstone, Bisbee, Patagonia Lake, Kitts Peak Observatory. 2-3 hours to Organ Pipe National Park, 4 to Puerto Penasco, Mexico. The city of Tucson is approximately 25 miles away, so an easy jaunt to eating, entertainment, hiking, casinos. Suggested Local Attractions:There are a few small restaurants in the Three Points area, as well as an ACE Hardware, a feed store and two gas stations. ![]() Please text or call if you are going to be later than expected. You are welcome to walk the land and along the main road as desired. Please keep your pets leashed or contained due to cactus, coyotes, bobcats, free range cattle, etc. There is occasional road noise, but not much at all in late night. I have decent internet service via Verizon. There will be a compost dump area if you utilize a composting toilet in your rig, and I now have a dump station. ![]() There is potable water available via gravity flow. I have been living there full time since the end of October 2021 in my own travel trailer. My three acres of land is off grid and southwest of Tucson, AZ. ![]()
